The Passenger, 2008

The Passenger was an installation piece created for Hallwalls' annual Artists and Models event. Two video projectors cast images on an eight foot wide, eighteen foot long screen stretched on steel beams an cantilevered up and over the audience. The theme of the 2008Artists and Models was "Unhinged". The Passenger is an unhinging of time and space. I shot time lapse images of the Buffalo city scape and projected it upside-down on the lower portion of the screen while blending above altered arial views of the landscape continually slide past. The effect is that the view is floating upside above the city moving continually towards the skyline. The landscape above is a patchwork of satellite views of the city and shots I've taken from heights to cause shifts in scale and alter perception of place. Rather than play out chronologically, the skyline moves forward, back, and jumps through time.
