The House Has Gone Down and the Lamps Are Out is an installation of sculpture, sound and four-channel video covering the four walls surrounding the viewer. The video projections were created by light-painting an abandoned plantation house deep in the woods of North Carolina to capture hundreds of still images that were used to build animated sequences. Reflecting the spherical structure of the narrative in Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, the piece uses the themes of the book and the motivations of its authors as a starting point and illustrates our American environment of fear, distrust, and alienation from the 1930s to our present.
